As I sat watching people on this beach, in a country with a language unlike any I ever heard, with a writing that truly blew my mind 
I saw a familiar scene: people enjoying the sun 
children playing in the water 
boats grilling and selling barbecue meat 
and cool beers 
to hungry people 
the sound of an upbeat tune playing faintly in the background 
and a little further down the beach the shapes of people dancing 
While in Thailand I managed to pick up a few phrases, but what really helped me navigate my way alone through this country was the universal human desire for connection. It doesn't take much. A shared plate of food, a love of laughter, an open mind. I’ve found in moments like these you will find connection with those around you wherever in the world you are
